Hello ski club families!

We are excited about skiing at Hyland with everyone who can make it. We will keep our meetings at Hyland until snow arrives at Hiawatha. Please note our club has been assigned a 10:30 A.M. START TIME. We apologize for all the changes, and we hope this will still work for most families!

Below is a lot of information that we hope will help things run smoothly. Please read through to the end.

Address/Directions – The entrance for cross-country skiing at Hyland is at 10145 Bush Lake Rd, Bloomington, MN 55438. When you arrive at Hyland and can see the chalet, turn left, go past the main chalet, and head toward the overflow lot by Jan's Place.

**IMPORTANT: We will meet at Jan’s Place (NOT the chalet by the Chutes & Ladders playground)**

Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get there and park. Hyland is bigger, busier, and further than Hiawatha, and if you are late, it can be challenging to find your group.

Arriving and check in – Please check in with Anne at the table. Our current plan is to set up near Jan’s Place which is the small cabin by the trail. There are a few other MyXC clubs meeting around the same time, so look for our ORANGE Hiawatha Sunday Noon sign. If you missed last week, Anne will have your bib, buff, and level (plus a hat for skiers new to MyXC).

Adults will then walk their skiers up to the staging area (see attached map). Find your coaches you met during the first session. If you missed last week, just look for the coaches wearing a bib that matches the color of the color-coded card on your skier’s bib, and check to make sure they are HIAWATHA SUNDAY NOON groups.

Session timing – All levels will begin together at the staging area at 10:30am (see the attached map for location). Level 1 & Level 2 kids will ski about 1 hour, Levels 3-5 may be out skiing for up to 1.5 hours. Please make sure your kids are dressed appropriately for the weather and to be outside for this duration. At the end of the session, please meet your skier back by the table area where you checked in.

Bibs – Hyland will be very busy during our session so for safety reasons, every skier in our club MUST BE WEARING A CLUB BIB with their name and emergency contact info. Please bring your bibs for each club session. If you forgot your bibs, ask Anne for a temporary one.

ALL Level 1 skiers should have an adult with them at all times during the session. All adults on skis need a pass for Hyland. Level 1 attendants who are NOT on skis do not need a pass. If you are not wearing skis, please be sure to stay off the groomed trails.

Poles –

  • Level 1 skiers do not need poles at all this season.
  • Level 2 skiers SHOULD LEAVE YOUR POLES AT HOME for the first few weeks. Coaches will let you know when it's time to start bringing them.
  • L3-5 skiers — Please label poles with masking tape and your skier’s name or initials. Sometimes these get left behind/mixed up when doing games/activities, and it’s more challenging to keep track of things at Hyland.

Water and snacks Consider sending water with your skier, if you can make it work. Drink belts are helpful if you have one. If carrying water isn't an option, bring a water bottle for them at the end of the session.

We hope to have snacks available for skiers at the end of each session. To do this, we will need volunteers to sign-up to purchase/bring snacksKatie Williams will be our volunteer snack coordinator this year. Click here to view the snack sign up sheet. Thank you for making this possible!

Bathrooms Please make sure your skiers use the bathroom before you check in with us. There are port-a-potties available outside of Jan's Place, but there are no bathrooms inside the cabin. If you want a real bathroom, head to the Chalet.

The Chalet – This building by the Chutes & Ladders playground is a cozy place with indoor bathrooms, a fireplace to warm up, and snacks for purchase. You can also rent skis there if you need them.

Extra sweepers – If you are able to ski at all, please join us as a sweeper with a group. As it’s a bigger area, it’s nice to have as many adults as possible out there on skis to help keep the groups together. Our coaches have all different levels of experience skiing, so don’t let that deter you. Our aim is to have fun. Note that all skiers 12+ need a ski pass at Hyland.

Picking up your skiers Groups will return to the table near Jan's place when they are finished, so please meet your skiers there. See session timing details above.

Let us know if you have any questions, let us know if you are coming, and we will look forward to seeing those of you who can make it to Hyland on Sundays at 10:30am!

Best,

Anne Keasling and Kris Hatling
